If water is potentially unsafe to drink, the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans will issue a precautionary boil water advisory. This announcement advises residents to boil tap water before drinking and usually lasts at least 24 hours. That's how long it takes to test the water. The Sewerage and Water Board will inform the community when it’s safe to drink the water.
Until the advisory is formally lifted, we ask that you continue to follow the city’s safety suggestions, on campus and at home. As a rule of thumb, residents should not drink, make ice or brush teeth using tap water – and should boil water before consuming. Bottled water will be provided to students residing on campus.
The University will communicate to the campus community via Loyno Alert notifications and our Emergency Communications system during a boil water advisory.
General safety advice to follow during boil water advisories can be found on NOLA Ready.
